cableNext year, from the month of April to be exact, Sarajevo will have the Trebevic cable car again. The cable car will again connect the city center with one of the most beautiful picnic areas near the city center and the Olympic mountain Trebevic, according to the deputy mayor Abdulah Skaka.

According to him, by the 11th of May the demolition of the incoming station near the devastated restaurant Vidikovac should be completed. The next step will be to development of detailed designs for both stations. There are already conceptual designs for the station that are made by the famous architect Mufid Garibija.

“In the meantime will be done the demolition of the lower station at Hrvatin. On the international tender, two companies satisfied the pre-qualification requirements. The second phase of qualifying will take place in the upcoming period, after which the contractor/ supplier of goods and assembly will officially be selected. After that, we will approach to the main project, which will exactly define number of poles, cabins etc.,“ explained Skaka.

According to current estimations, the cable car will have 12 poles and 40 cabins and the ride from the city center to Trebevic will last about 8 minutes. The cable car will be built on the old route. Installation of poles at a distance of 2,200 meters will start in 7 months.

“The investor of the cable car is the City. We have a donation that was waiting for the City to get the right to build a cable car. We have provided 3.5 million BAM from our own budget, which amounts to 10.5 million BAM together with the 7 million BAM of donations. We need another 1.5 million to complete this project,” said Skaka.

“The city administration is investing a lot of effort to restore the restaurant Vidikovac as well. This is an important facility for the cable core and for all the visitors of Sarajevo. Therefore, it is an integral part of the revitalization of the Trebevic cable core,” concluded Skaka.
