principov_latinski_mostThe agreement on maintenance and rehabilitation of open spaces of the Latin Bridge in Sarajevo, for which Stari Grad municipality is donating 27.794.19 KM, was signed today by the mayor of Star Grad Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, Director of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural-Historical and Cultural Heritage of Canton Sarajevo Munib Buljina and the Technical Director of the company Neimari d.o.o. Sedžad Mizdrak.

Works on the Latin bridge will begin in the next few days, and the planned deadline for the completion is 40 days.

“The reconstruction of the pavement portion of this bridge is the beginning of the contribution of the Stari Grad municipality in marking the 100 years since the assassination of the Austro-Hungarian Archduke Franz Ferdinand, which is planned for next year’’, said Hadžibajrić during the signing of the contract.

The Embassy of France and Austria and BiH institutions will organize the marking of the anniversary, announced Hadžibajrić.

He emphasized that the Stari Grad municipality is actively participating in the maintenance of cultural-historical monuments in the area of this municipality, without being concerned about areas of competencies.

The Director of the Institute Munib Buljina recalled that the Latin Bridge was reconstructed in detail six year ago and that now, after reconstruction in August the relevant institutions will be advised over the maintenance of the bridge.

He points to the needs to find methods to remove snow and ice that would not destroy the structure of the stone bridge.

The Latin bridge is one of the oldest Sarajevo bridges. It changed forms over time and the original was made of wood.

Near the bridge in 1914 the Archduke of Austro-Hungary Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sofia were assassinated.
