The ground is being prepared for the installation of rails, which should soon be brought to Sarajevo. Cantonal Transport Minister Adnan Steta (SDP) told last month that the rails should be transported later this month or early next month.

Earlier, on several occasions, the reconstruction of the tram line from Ilidza to Remiza, which began in late August last year, will be completed in early May this year. After that, the reconstruction should start from Remiza to the Railway Station, Marijin Dvor. Reconstruction from Remiza to Marijin Dvor should be completed next year.

Namely, the works will cost more than 20 million euros, and the money was secured by a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The contractor is a consortium of Chinese companies China Shandong International Economic & Technical Cooperation Group Ltd. and China Railway No.10 Enginerring Group.

It is expected that with the reconstructed railway, with 15 new trams from the Swiss manufacturer Stadler worth 34 million euros and adaptive traffic management, tram transport will be significantly improved. The first trams should be delivered in September 2023. The cantonal government promises that the construction of the tram line from Ilidza to Hrasnica will begin this year.
