The exhumation at the Čarakovo site near Prijedor has been completed, and the incomplete remains of at least one victim of the past war have been exhumed.

Spokeswoman of the Institute for Missing Persons of BiH, Emza Fazlić, told FENA that after the exhumation, the remains were transferred to the Commemorative and identification center in Šejkovača, for forensic-medical and criminal-technical processing, as well as the extraction of bone samples in order to determine the identity of the victim using the DNA method.

The exhumation was carried out by order of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina and under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

According to information from the Institute for Missing Persons BiH, it is most likely the remains of a victim of Bosniak nationality who was killed in this locality in the summer of 1992.

Spokeswoman of the Institute for Missing Persons of BiH, Emza Fazlić, told FENA that, the employees of the Institute were informed that the remains were found in the Čarakovo – Žeger Potok location, after the owner of the site came across bones that were partially buried in the ground, and partly on the surface of the field while cleaning his property.

The Institute’s investigators immediately went to the field and determined that the remains were of human origin, after which a request for exhumation was sent to the BiH Prosecutor’s Office.
