According to the Director of Reumal, Dr. Eldan Lokmić, Fojnica first became known after the thermal water which was used for classic spa treatments.
“Small lakes with thermal water have been used in the beginning, and people were staying in hans, old accommodation facilities. Women came for treatments of infertility,” Dr. Lokmić recalled.
Prior to the Second World War, the center was modestly upgraded. Since sixties of the past century, Fojnica has been experiencing an amazing period when it obtained a permit for the construction of the hospital for treatments of rheumatic, myopathic and similar diseases. The hospital was put into operation in 1967 by the then first lady of Yugoslavia, Jovanka Broz.
Today, the Reumal group has around 700 beds at disposal and the capacity will be expanded by additional 500 beds by the end of 2015. Around 250,000 overnight stays are realized annually, of which 30 percent are made by foreign tourists from Slovenia, Croatia, diaspora and Arab countries, whose number is constantly increasing.
Moreover, construction of a five-star hotel is nearing completion. The hotel will enable foreign tourists the comfort and service as in prestigious world hotels. According to the plans, the hotel should start working by the end of the year already.
