The ninth edition of the Vučko Trail, the most massive trail race in Bosnia and Herzegovina, was held this weekend on the Bjelašnica and Visočica mountains, which once again gathered more than 1,000 runners from 27 countries under the slogan “Run ancient paths”.
Over the course of three days, from June 13 to 15, participants competed on four trails of varying lengths and technical difficulty, leading through spectacular mountain landscapes, authentic villages and sites rich in cultural and historical heritage.
Among the winners, Aldin Rizvić stood out on the Black Trail, who ran the 105-kilometer section in 14:09:22, while Varvara Shikanova ran the 60-kilometer section fastest on the Red Trail in 8:03:50.
Other winners by trail are Sanel Uzunović on the Blue Trail (40 km, 4:00:33) and Alen Memić on the Green Trail (14 km, 1:28:48).
In the women’s competition, the winners by trail are: Darija Bostjančić on the Black Trail (105 km, 19:11:07), Alma Alijagić on the Blue Trail (40 km, 4:44:25) and Irma Kristić on the Green Trail (14 km, 1:38:02).
The President of the Željezničar Mountaineering Association, Dalvin Kadirić, emphasized that this year’s edition was also held in an excellent spirit of sport, togetherness and respect for nature.
“The most important thing for us is that all the trails were completed without serious injuries and that the runners reached the finish line safely. Thank you to all participants, volunteers and partners for contributing to the Vučko Trail remaining what it is – a true mountain adventure this year,” said Kadirić.
Vučko Trail is much more than a race. It is an event that combines a physical challenge with a deep experience of the natural and cultural heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Participants ran along trails that lead over the Bjelašnica and Visočica ridges, past medieval stećak tombstones and through villages like Lukomir, the highest inhabited place in Bosnia and Herzegovina, experiencing trail running in its most authentic form.
This year’s edition of Vučko Trail was realized with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Canton of BiH, the Canton of BiH Tourist Board, Powerade, UNIQA insurance, Podravka, UniCredit, BH Telecom, Zira, Lutrija BiH, KPMG, Varta and ATN Global.
The organizer of the event is the Željezničar Mountaineering Association, which has been nurturing the values of active living, nature conservation and the development of outdoor sports in Bosnia and Herzegovina for more than seven decades.
