Roma Culture Days and Nights of Sofka Nikolić on 26 and 27 March in Art House Sevdah Sarajevo

art_kuca_sevdahaThe exhibition of works by Roma artists from B&H and Serbia will start today, opening a two day manifestation called Days of Roma Culture and Nights of Sofka Nikolić, which is being realized as part of the cross border project between the two countries called Support to Cooperation, Inclusion, Education and Promotion of Roma Culture in B&H and Serbia- SA-ŠA, which is financed by the EU.

This is the first of a two day event, which will be realized as part of this project. The second is titled cultural nights dedicated to the promotion of the life and works of Sofka Nikolić, which will be held tomorrow, also in Art House Sevdah.

The settings bring many interesting details on Roma culture and art, such as an exhibition of paintings, costumes, souvenirs, items carved from wood, craft items and folk creativity.

The aim of the project is to promote the culture and tradition of Roma in B&H and Serbia, to spread public awareness on the artistic and literary work of the Roma, traditional costumes and traditional crafts, as well as promoting the life and work of singer Sofka Nikolić, whose life is connected to Serbia and B&H. Between the two world wars, she performed in the biggest European metropolises and took the title of the most sought after singer in Europe.

The European Union is financing the project worth 140.000 Euros, and is realized bz the City of Sarajevo in partnership with the National Council of the Roma Minority of Serbia, the Sarajevo Regional Development Agency SERDA and Hilfswerk Austria International in B&H.
