Dr. Behija Zlatar, who talked about the chronological development of the city of Sarajevo in the time of Isa-bey’s Ishakovic in her speech, noted that Sarajevo was already a developed city at the end of the 15th century.
“In the middle of the 15th century, Isa-bey Ishakovic came to this area and started with the construction of the city. Although there already existed a settlement, in 1462, when vakufnama of Gazi Isa-bey Ishakovic was written, it is considered to be the year when Sarajevo was built. After Isa-bey Ishakovic, many other governors and traders participated in the construction of the city, so that Sarajevo was developed city at the end of the 15th century, and at the end of the 16th century it had about 100 streets and it was one of the most beautiful cities in the Balkans,” said Zlatar.
“When it comes to waqfs of Isa-bey Ishakovic, which are numerous, especially in the area of Bascarsija, we were able to identify all of them. They are still physically present here, a total of 117 particles including land parcels, offices, and religious buildings,” said the director of the Waqf Directive Dr. Senaid Zaimovic.
Prof. Dr. Vesna Museta-Asceric, also one of the participants of the conference, explained that at the time of Isa-bey Ishakovic, Sarajevo was township which grew in seher.
Enes Pelidija, the professor at the Faculty of Philosophy in Sarajevo, noted that before Sarajevo, on the recommendation of Sultan Mehmed Fatih, was founded Yeni Pazar which played a significant role in the foundation of Sarajevo.
President the Steering Board of the Association of Isa-bey Ishakovic, Elvis Pivic, noted that the founder of the city of Sarajevo deserves much more attention in BH public.
“Vakufnama of Isa-bey Ishakovic was completed on this day in 1462, and it is the birth certificate of Sarajevo, and today we want to encourage the citizens of Sarajevo and all those who should take Isa-bey Ishakovic as an example in the development and show the public that Isa-bey with vision made such a concept that even 555 years after his time, we inherited the culture and we still use objects that he left,” said Pivic, noting that the round table is symbolically held on the day of certification of Vakufnama.
