The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) issued a statement regarding various public comments on the perspectives of the European Union (EU) Althea mission.
The embassy said that the statements about the prospects for the implementation of the EU Althea peace operation are speculative and that in parallel the thesis is being asserted that in the event of a hypothetical lack of support for this mission in the Security Council, the presence of the NATO contingent in BiH needs to be urgently increased.
”We start from the fact that, according to the latest report of the EU forces to the UN Security Council, the security situation in BiH is still peaceful and stable. In this sense, the explanations about the need to expand the military personnel in EUFOR, including at the expense of Bundeswehr soldiers, are unfounded. And we consider it especially unacceptable to refer to the impact of events in Ukraine on the situation in BiH,” considers the embassy of Russia.
”The growing propaganda uproar around Althea is no accident. It seems that certain Western countries, primarily the United States (U.S.) and the United Kingdom (UK), are preparing the ground for the creeping “NATOization” of BiH. This is by no means done in the interest of strengthening internal security in BiH, which, as Westerners themselves note, is not threatened, but for the sake of geopolitical dominance, the desire to maintain its hegemony at all costs. In this sense, we do not rule out provocations that will prove the “weakness” of EUFOR and the need to replace them with occupying NATO troops,” they said harshly.
Russia called on the officials of BiH “not to get involved in an artificially imposed game with marked cards, to start a substantive dialogue on current internal political problems without external dictates.”
They concluded that Russia consistently starts from its obligations as a guarantor of the Dayton Peace Agreement in BiH, Klix.ba writes.
