European defense without the United States “will not work,” NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said after an informal meeting with European leaders in Brussels.
Rutte added that neither NATO nor any other similar defense organization will work without the United States.
He stressed that he was “absolutely confident” that the Alliance can handle the trade tensions between the United States and Canada, adding that the issue would not affect NATO’s collective defense.
Rutte attended an informal defense meeting in Brussels tonight with EU leaders and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
