Salary payments for May began yesterday for the Zenica miners who, at the beginning of this month, halted work on equipment extraction, but they will return to work only after receiving their June wages, as well, stated the president of the Union of the Zenica Brown Coal Mine, Nedzad Durakovic.
Three days ago, the miners held protests in front of the building of the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) in Sarajevo due to delays in salary payments and the failure to pay contributions for colleagues who retired last year.
“The Union has taken the position that work will not resume until we receive the June salary as well. According to announcements, the June salary should be paid by the end of next week. The May salary is currently being deposited into workers’ accounts, and by the end of the day, everyone should have received their salary,” said Durakovic.
Until the June salary is paid, he stated, only mandatory inspection work is being carried out in the “Raspotocje” and “Stara jama” pits.
