Samardzic finishes among the top 16 at the World Championships in Baku

Bosnia and Herzegovina national team member Aleksandra Samardžić was eliminated in the Round of 16 of the World Championships in Baku in the under-70 kg category, her home club, Judo Club Mostar, reported.

At the largest senior judo competition following the Olympic Games – which brought together 622 competitors from 93 countries – the representative from Bosnia and Herzegovina secured two valuable victories, confirming her quality at the highest international level.

In the first round, Samardžić defeated Danish national team member Laerke Olsen – whom she had also beaten at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Her performance in the second round was particularly impressive; she defeated the Italian Giorgia Stangherlin, one of the tournament favorites, thereby advancing to the Round of 16.

In the match for a spot in the quarterfinals, the Bosnian-Herzegovinian representative was defeated by Sweden’s Ingrid Nelson, meaning Aleksandra finished the competition among the top 16 female judokas in the world.

Toni Miletić also represented Bosnia and Herzegovina at the World Championships, though his competition ended in the first round following a loss to a Czech national team member.

Aleksandra’s result marks yet another significant international success for Judo Club Borsa from Mostar – the reigning senior and junior team champion of Bosnia and Herzegovina – the club noted.
