The well-known flight, hotel and car rental search platform “Skyscanner” has presented a list of the world’s most walkable cities, and the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina is in the top 10.
By analyzing data, the platform created a walkability index to help tourists discover the best cities for walking in 2025. They focused on the distance between major attractions, the number of steps and the time needed to visit. They also checked the average altitude, population density and safety.
Cordoba in Spain is at the top of the list, followed by Nagasaki and Hiroshima in Japan.
Sarajevo came in ninth place, and Skyscanner describes it as “a city that is compact and easy to walk, and only a 22-minute walk separates you from the most important attractions in Sarajevo”.
“With only 328 inhabitants per square kilometer, Sarajevo exudes a calmer rhythm compared to other European capitals, yet offers an impressive 513 attractions waiting to be discovered,” the description states.
Among the most famous sights that should be visited are the Sarajevo City Hall, the colorful Baščaršija and the Latin bridge. For those who want a deeper understanding of the city’s recent history, the Sarajevo Tunnel, also known as the Rescue Tunnel, is a must-see destination. For a look into his turbulent past, this platform recommends visiting the Museum of Crimes against Humanity and Genocide and the Museum of Wartime Childhood.
Sarajevo also offers a rich gastronomic offer. They especially recommended the Bosnian pot – a traditional dish that takes hours to prepare and provides the warmth of home cooking. Don’t forget to stop in one of the numerous cafes and enjoy Sarajevo coffee, serving which has become a real little ritual.
The list of the 10 most walkable cities in the world includes Cordoba (Spain), Nagasaki (Japan), Hiroshima (Japan), Reggio Calabria (Italy), Monte Carlo (Monaco), Tartu (Estonia), Bursa (Turkey), Bolzano (Italy), Sarajevo (BiH), Victoria (British Columbia).
