Sarajevo Canton Prime Minister Nihad Uk, CS Minister of Economy Zlatko Mijatović and Director of KJP “Veterinary Station” Nasiha Spahić toured the works on the construction of the new Dog Adoption Center in Prača, and the first phase of construction is coming to an end.
After the buildings of the old and non-conditional shelter for dogs were demolished, and the construction site was prepared, the construction of three pavilions intended for housing dogs is underway.
In the second phase, the furnishing of the main building and the construction of two additional pavilions for the accommodation of dogs are planned, while in the third phase, the external arrangement of the space will be started, after which the ceremonial opening of the Center will be held.
Given that the project has a key role in solving the problem of abandoned dogs in the Sarajevo Canton, the CS Government supported the project with 3.5 million BAM.
“The Government of Sarajevo Canton is building the most modern dog adoption center. The center in Praca is becoming a place where happy stories with new beginnings are born,” said Uk during his visit to the Center.
According to Mijatović, the construction of the new Center encourages not only a safe shelter for dogs, but also their adoption, “thus creating a space where love for animals can live in full glory”.
The center in Prača operates on the principle of “No kill” shelter and respects all standards of humane care for dogs.
Every year, the Ministry of Economy of CS implements programs of free sterilization and castration of stray dogs and cats, their vaccination, identification and other health protection measures.
After treatment, dogs and cats are not returned to the street, but are taken to shelters, from where they will be cared for or adopted.
Mijatović announced that in the coming period the Ministry of Economy will conclude agreements with veterinary stations that will work on the implementation of those measures, the CS Protocol and Press Service announced.
