According to data from the Institute for Informatics and Statistics of Sarajevo Canton, 348,531 tourist arrivals and a total of 674,518 overnight stays were recorded in the six months of 2026.
Foreign tourists achieved 287,630 arrivals and 573,513 overnight stays, that is, 82.5 percent of all arrivals and 85 percent of the total number of overnight stays. Most foreign tourists came from Turkey, Croatia, Serbia, the People’s Republic of China and Germany.
Greece stands out in particular, from where the number of tourist arrivals has doubled compared to the first half of the previous year. Strong growth was also recorded among tourists from Belgium, by 54 percent, the Netherlands by 39.7 percent, France by 35.8 percent, Denmark by 30.8 percent, the Czech Republic by 28 percent and Sweden by 26.8 percent.
Positive developments were also recorded in other important international markets. The number of tourist arrivals from the United States increased by 21.7 percent, and from Germany by 19.6 percent. Growth was also achieved among guests from the United Kingdom, Italy and Spain. On regional markets, the number of tourist arrivals from Serbia increased by 15.3 percent, and from Croatia by 9.6 percent.
The growth in arrivals is accompanied by better results in the number of overnight stays. Tourists from Greece achieved 76.9 percent more overnight stays, from Denmark 38.8 percent, the Netherlands 34.2 percent, France 26.2 percent, and from Sweden and the United States 23.6 percent more each. The number of overnight stays by tourists from Germany increased by 20.8 percent, and from Spain by 16.4 percent.
Such developments are accompanied by the continuous improvement of air connectivity in Sarajevo. Direct and seasonal lines to numerous European destinations facilitate the arrival of tourists and create additional opportunities for the development of tourist and business flows. The announced lines to Prague, Berlin and Bratislava will additionally connect Sarajevo with important European markets.
At the same time, a decline in tourist traffic was recorded in the markets of the Middle East, in a period marked by geopolitical tensions and air traffic disruptions in the region.
Positive trends continued in domestic tourism. In the first half of the year, 60,901 arrivals of domestic tourists were recorded, which represents an increase of 15.3 percent. Domestic tourists had 101,005 overnight stays, i.e. 13.6 percent more than in the same period of the previous year.
