Sarajevo hosts Diving Competition ‘Bentbasa 2016’

On the 14^th of August Sarajevo should be the host of the second diving competition “Bentbasa 2016”. The city of Sarajevo was presented as a new destination for this type of extreme sports at last year’s event, and caused a positive reaction of citizens and the media all across the country. Based on these responses, the intention of the organizers is that this competition becomes a tradition in our capital, and that we can take a look at attractive jumps at Bentbasa in the upcoming years and try to “save” this famous bathing place from oblivion and enrich the summer season.

Compared to last year’s competition when the jumps were performed from improvised platform set at a height of 15 meters, the idea this year is to raise the event to a higher level by setting a mounting platform on higher ground, thus the competition would become even more attractive for spectators, and it would be, after the Old Bridge in Mostar, the second jumping platform in height in our country and region.

“Preparations are currently taking place. For the event to be held we need to set a platform on a rock next to the Bentbasa, from which jumps will be performed, and it is necessary to deepen the riverbed of Miljacka for the safety of the competitors. In comparison to last year, we managed to obtain all the necessary paperwork from competent authorities to carry out these works. We are currently searching for financial sponsors of this event, and we hope that we will succeed. Given the fact that the event is held for the second time, we believe that the “II International Diving Competition Sarajevo Bentbasa” will draw more attention of media, citizens of Sarajevo, BiH and guests that are staying in the capital city,” said the organizer of the event, Dino Bajric.
