According to the latest quarterly report from Airports Council International Europe (ACI EUROPE), Sarajevo International Airport (SJJ) ranked second among Europe’s “medium airports” — those handling between 1 and 10 million passengers annually — in terms of passenger traffic growth during the first quarter of 2025. The airport saw an impressive 41.7% year-on-year increase in passenger numbers, highlighting Bosnia and Herzegovina’s strong upward trajectory in the aviation sector.
This result underscores the continued expansion of air travel across the country, which as a whole also experienced a 41.7% rise in passenger traffic during the same period. Sarajevo International Airport, as the nation’s primary air hub, has been a key driver of this growth.
Sanin Ramezić, Acting Director of Sarajevo International Airport, commented on the achievement:
“A 41.7% surge in passenger traffic during Q1 2025 is a strong sign that we’re moving in the right direction. Being recognized as one of the fastest-growing medium-sized airports in Europe is a proud moment for us and motivates us to keep enhancing our services and infrastructure.
This milestone is a product of strategic partnerships and ongoing support from the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Government, the Sarajevo Canton Government, the Sarajevo Canton Tourist Board, and our other collaborators in air travel and tourism. We deeply value their trust and remain committed to building an airport that continues to connect Bosnia and Herzegovina with more destinations worldwide.”
