Sarajevo Roundabout in Function Until 1 July

sarajevska-zaobilaznicaEnsad Karić, the Director of Autoceste FBiH (FB&H Highways), said to the B&H newspaper agency Patria (NAP) that Sarajevo Roundabout will be put in function by this summer. According to him, until 1 July, two-thirds of the Sarajevo roundabout, that is the part from Jošanica to Vlakovo, will be put in function.

“All those who will go to the seaside from Corridor 5C, will not have to pass through the city and traffic jams, but they will go through the modern road until the loop in Jošanica, that is from Zenica to Vlakovo. The only part left to build will be the part from Sarajevo to Butile. However the basic function of the roundabout will be completed,” said Karić for NAP.

Since then, the tunnel Vijenac will also be in function, so the highway will be “in one piece” and will outspread from Zenica South until Vlakovo. Regarding this, the Government of the FB&H reached today the decision about the transfer of rights of the building, reconstruction, maintenance and protection on the part of “Sarajevo roundabout” LOT-1  Jošanica – Butila, with the loop Butila on Corridor 5C, from the JP Ceste Federacije BiH to JP Autoceste Federacije BiH Mostar.

In the explanation of the decision, it is said that the Autoceste Federacije BiH, with the decision of the government of the FB&H, named for the implementation on the construction of LOT-3 (LOT-3A and LOT-3B) of “Sarajevo roundabout”. Given that the construction on the LOT-3A is in the final phase, and due to the aim of the establishment of the normal functioning of Sarajevo roundabout, it is necessary to put the LOT-1 into function as well. Ceste Federacije BiH is in charge of the LOT-1 construction.

Based on what was previously said, there are assumptions that higher traffic will be recorded on the tolls, which would increase the income from the toll collection and the traffic in the city would be significantly alleviated.
