Sarajevo Security Conference begins Today

The capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) will gather from September 26th to 28th more than 300 participants from more than 20 countries at the third edition of the Sarajevo Security Conference.

Among the key participants of the conference will be three senior representatives of NATO, namely NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Sekerinska, and Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe (DSACEUR) and NATO’s second-in-command for operations in Europe, Admiral Sir Keith Blount.

In addition to them, the conference will also be attended by Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (DSACT) General Aurelio Colagrande, who will be visiting the region for the first time since his appointment to this function.

The director of the Sarajevo Security Conference, Hikmet Karcic, emphasized that BiH, for the third year in a row, has strong support from NATO.

“This is a clear indicator of how important BiH is for the security of the whole region, but also of how our work in Sarajevo is recognized as a place where a serious dialogue on the future of Europe is held,” he said.

The conference will, between September 26th and 28th, host international experts, including representatives of NATO, the European Union (EU), Atlantic and European think-tanks, the academic community, as well as the armed forces of the United States (U.S.), Canada, and Italy.

The third edition of the conference will also gather leading experts, decision-makers, security and defense officials, academics, and representatives of civil society.

The focus of the conference will be on new frameworks of European security, with emphasis on strengthening coordination, resilience of democracy, and facing challenges such as authoritarian influences, hybrid warfare, and geopolitical instability.

Karcic emphasized that by gathering military officials and security experts, diplomats, professors, and researchers, the conference becomes a rare forum where practical experiences, academic knowledge, and diplomatic perspectives complement each other.

He concluded that it is precisely this diversity of participants that gives the event special weight and makes it a unique space of dialogue, which from year to year grows and gains in significance.

The Sarajevo Security Conference is organized by the New Lines Institute for Strategy and Policy, the organizers announced.
