The 5th Vils Ultramarathon – described by the organizer, the “Dečki u plavom” (Guys in Blue) Association, as one of the year’s most inspiring sporting events – is scheduled to take place in Sarajevo on Saturday, September 26.
The race is not merely a test of physical endurance but also a symbol of togetherness, inclusion, and providing opportunities to those often left out of sporting activities.
Around 120 ultramarathoners – or runners aspiring to become one – will have the chance to embrace a 12-hour mental challenge.
The competition will feature two disciplines: 6-hour and 12-hour races. The start is scheduled for 9:00 AM, with the race concluding at 9:00 PM.
“As we anticipated, Sarajevo’s ‘Vils Ultramarathon’ has been recognized as the ultramarathon race with the greatest potential for future growth and the prospect of becoming the premier ultramarathon event in the region. In addition to local participants, there will be competitors from Serbia, Croatia, the United States, Slovenia, Germany, France, Slovakia, Montenegro, Turkey, and Ukraine,” said Vlado Čelan on behalf of the organizers.
The organizers also note that the “Vils Ultramarathon” is an exploration of capability and endurance, a passionate embrace of every millimeter of asphalt covered, and a fantastic opportunity for those wishing to step up from half-marathons or marathons to the ultramarathon distance.
As the event lasts 12 hours, there will be no suspension of vehicular traffic. Pedestrians will be able to move about without obstruction. The location of the race, on the road Vilsonovo šetalište, between the “Suada i Olga” bridge and the “Vodoprivreda” bridge, was chosen so that there would be as little disturbance as possible to the comfort of citizens.
The organizers invite the citizens of Sarajevo to come to Vilson’s Promenade and support the participants.
