The trial in the case “Vujović Ratko et al”, which is being conducted before the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina due to the genocide in Srebrenica, was postponed today after the accused Željko Dupljanin appeared in court under the visible influence of alcohol. Due to his condition, the court police did not allow him to enter the building, reports Detektor.
Judge Dragan Vukajlović warned Dupljanin’s lawyer, Rade Golic, about the accused’s inappropriate behavior. “Defender, pay attention to the accused. If this behavior is repeated, we will consider the possibility of the accused compensating the costs of the trial,” said Vukajlović.
Prosecutor Tarik Crnkić pointed out that it was difficult to organize the arrival of witnesses and suggested that the holding of the hearing be considered, while the judge pointed out that a person under the influence of alcohol cannot follow court proceedings. Defense attorney Radivoje Lazarevic stated that Dupljanin admitted that he had drunk a glass of wine and that he did not seem drunk, but the court remained with the decision to postpone.
The defendants in this case are Ratko Vujović, Ljubomir Vlačić, Vitomir Pepić, Milovan Ognjenović, Goran Višković, Željko Dupljanin and Vlastimir Golijan. They are all accused of having, as commanders and members of the Military Police of the Drina Corps, the Birčan Brigade and the 10th Sabotage Detachment attached to the Main Staff of the VRS, participated in the capture, imprisonment and transport of Bosniak men and boys from the area of Srebrenica to the locations where the shootings and murders were carried out in July 1995.
According to the indictment of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a total of 65 people, including one woman, were killed in the localities of Pola (Hashim’s Hole), Bišina-Krajevi Valley and Jarovlje-Piskavica. The bodies of the victims were exhumed and identified after the war, and the identity of all the victims is known to the court.
The trial in the case “Vujović Ratko et al” will continue later, and the date of the new hearing has not yet been determined.
