The amendment to the Constitution of the Federation, imposed a year ago by High Representative Christian Schmidt, has officially entered into force.

The changes allow the President of the Federation to, after consultation with the relevant actors, appoint a representative for the composition of the new Government.

The appointment of the Federal Government requires the consent of both vice-presidents, and it is confirmed by the House of Representatives. In case of disagreement, the deadline is extended.

Schmidt also introduced the possibility of override, but in that case the Government would have to be confirmed by the House of Peoples.

In particular, three fifths in each caucus of nations, that is, 14 delegates, must not be against. If, despite everything, it is not possible to confirm the new Government, new extraordinary elections will be called.
