President of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) Bakir Izetbegović sent a letter to the presidents of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Nermin Nikšić and the Croat Democratic Union (HDZ) Dragan Čović, in which he stated that with the election of Refik Lendo, Lidija Bradara and Igor Stojanović as presidents/vice-presidents of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, conditions have been created for the formation of a new Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The letter states that the blockade of the implementation of the election results from 2018, which lasted for more than four years and led to the fact that the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina functions in a reduced composition without the ministers for veterans’ affairs, education and health, rightly irritates the public and burdens political relations.
“Announcements that the blockade can be continued unless the unreasonable demands to oust the winner of the election from power and disregard the will of the Bosniak Caucus in the House of Peoples of the FBiH Parliament, or to try to form the Government of the Federation of BiH by political and legal violence, contrary to the Constitution of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, would only further complicate the existing situation,” stated the SDA president.
He added that presidents/vice presidents that are coming from SDA, HDZ and SDP form the top of the executive power in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and “this is a fact that cannot be changed by anything”.
“That is why these three parties have the right, but also the obligation, to form a complete government in the Federation of BiH, which includes the election of the president and two vice-presidents of the Federation, as well as the Government of the Federation.
Expectations and attempts to deprive any of the three parties of this right and constitutional obligation are a naive illusion. Such attempts will lead to the continuation of the blockade, for which those who refuse a political agreement following the Constitution of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina will be responsible, states Izetbegović in the letter.
“I suggest that before that meeting, the presidents of SDA, HDZ and SDP hold a meeting to reach a comprehensive political agreement that will enable the formation of the Government of the Federation,” the letter states, the SDA announced.
