Security Minister submitted Documentation to the Prosecutor’s Office about Schmidt’s Stay in BiH

Yesterday, on October 16th, the Minister of Security in the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Nenad Nesic, submitted to the BiH Prosecutor’s Office the documentation on the stay of Christian Schmidt, the high representative in BiH.

Nesic claims that the documentation allegedly proves that Smit is not a legitimate high representative in BiH.

At a press conference held on October 12th in Sarajevo, he called on the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH “to urgently conduct an investigation into the illegal and false representation of Schmidt as a high representative in BiH and his activities, and to inform the public about the results.”

The Minister of Security of BiH then stated that according to the available documentation, Schmidt resides in BiH as a diplomat of Germany, and not on the basis of a United Nations (UN)Security Council resolution.

Schmidt was appointed by the Peace Implementation Council in BiH (PIC), the body responsible for appointing high-ranking representatives, in May 2021.

Western countries that are members of the PIC, led by the United States (U.S.) and the European Union (EU), believe that the confirmation of the UN Security Council is not necessary.

The Republika Srpska (RS) authorities do not recognize Schmidt

Political representatives from RS claim that Christian Schmidt is not legitimate, because the UN Security Council did not pass a resolution on it.

On September 17th, Nesic requested from the Agency for Investigation and Protection of BiH and the Service for Affairs with Foreigners of BiH information on the basis on which the high representative in BiH Christian Schmidt, and his entourage are staying in BiH. He also sent the request to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the BiH Border Police, Slobodna Evropa reports.
