Signed Contracts for New Airlines and Waste Management Projects in Tuzla Canton

Federal Minister of Environment and Tourism Nasiha Pozder, during her visit to Tuzla Canton, signed contracts worth a total of 950,000 BAM for tourism development projects, removal of hazardous waste and improvement of the waste management system.

With the director of Tuzla International Airport Dževad Haličević, Minister Pozder signed a contract worth 75,000 BAM within the framework of the program Support for the introduction of new airlines in order to develop tourism.

“The development of air transport directly contributes to the development of tourism, opens up new opportunities for the arrival of tourists and strengthens the competitiveness of the tourism offer of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. That is why it is important for us to support projects that have concrete development effects,” said Pozder.

Continuation of the removal of hazardous waste from the former HAK

The Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism stated that a contract worth 500,000 BAM was signed with the Minister of Spatial Planning and Environmental Protection of the Tuzla Canton, Anela Ajšić, for the co-financing of the rehabilitation and removal of hazardous waste – crux from the industrial zone of Tuzla, in the area of the former Chlor-Alkali Combine.

This is one of the most significant environmental projects in this part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the goal of which is to eliminate a long-standing environmental problem and protect the health of citizens and the environment.

The Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism has previously supported this project. In 2023, the Ministry of Spatial Planning and Environmental Protection of the Tuzla Canton was awarded two million BAM for the implementation of the project to remove hazardous waste from the former HAK.

Funds for landfills in Gradačac and Gračanica

The Mayor of Gradačac, Hajrudin Mehanović, signed with Minister Pozder a contract worth 200,000 BAM for the project of rehabilitation and closure of the existing Višnjik municipal waste landfill, as well as the construction of accompanying facilities adapted to the regional concept of waste disposal.

Support for this project represents the continuation of joint efforts to permanently and adequately solve the issue of waste in Gradačac, after 380,000 BAM was approved from the Budget of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina last year.

Pozder also signed a contract worth 175,000 BAM with the representative of the City of Gračanica for the co-financing of the third phase of rehabilitation and closure of the existing municipal waste landfill in Gračanica and the construction of accompanying facilities adapted to the regional concept of waste disposal.

400,000 BAM has been allocated for this project from the Budget of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2024.

Pozder pointed out that the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism continuously invests in environmental protection projects throughout the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“In the mandate of this convocation of the Government of the Federation of BiH, the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism co-financed projects in the field of waste management in the Tuzla Canton in a total amount of more than 4.7 million BAM, which is a record amount compared to all other cantons. We expect that this amount will be even higher after the end of the public call for rehabilitation projects of illegal landfills for the year 2026, which is currently underway,” emphasized Pozder.
