‘Ski Center Ponijeri’ welcomes the Start of the new Ski Season

Ski center Ponijeri near Kakanj welcomes the start of the new ski season, but the new snowfall was not enough to prepare the track for skiing during the past weekend, said the acting ski center director of the Public Institution Cultural Sports Center Kakanj Mustafa Subašić.

He notes that due to the small amount of snow, traces of machines remain on the track, so for the start of the ski season, they will still have to wait for new amounts of “white cover”.

“We are ready to open the track as early as today, but, unfortunately, there was not enough snow. It only fell about 15 centimeters. We are, after all, a ski resort at 1,100 meters above sea level,” said Subašić.

In recent years, with the support of the Municipality of Kakanj and the Government of the Zenica-Doboj Canton (ZDK), the people of Kakanj have completed their ski center with new facilities for rest and recreation, as well as for road infrastructure.

Last year, the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina donated 1,500,000 BAM to this ski resort for the purchase of a new ski lift, which was again installed and tested this summer with the support of the Municipality and ZDK.

“The ski lift is ready, as are all our other facilities for the start of the season. Today we are back on the field and we are installing protective sponges and nets along the track. We will soon announce a public call for renting our restaurant within the Eco-house, which has seven apartments with 28 beds, which has been in operation since last year,” said Subašić.

In addition to the skiing trail, which is also organized at night, visitors also have access to a free sledding trail.

Due to the increase in the price of all other costs and investments in recent years, Subašić points out, they have increased the price of parking and ski passes for the new season. Thus, full-day use of the parking lot, instead of the previous two, will cost five KM, and half-day use of the ski lift and ski slope has been increased from ten to 15 BAM. The all-day ski pass has been increased from 15 to 20 BAM. Accommodation and overnight stay in the Eco-house managed by this company costs 40 BAM per person per day.

The municipality of Kakanj last season, and will continue to provide free bus transportation from the city to Ponijeri during the ski season, when the ski center organizes a program as part of the Winter Magic event and the Ski School for youth and adults.
