‘Sloboda’ (Freedom) awards which are given by International Peace Centre Sarajevo were held today as a part of Sarajevo 29th ‘Sarajevo Winter’ in the Museum of Sarajevo.
The award is given to individuals or organisations who contribute in fighting for human rights and freedoms in BiH and in the World.
Award winners are : Irina Bokova, secretary general of UNESCO, Thorbjorn Jagland, secretary general of Council of Europe, Kurt Bermann, initiator of humanitarian project ”Neighbour in trouble” from Austria, Nermina Kurspahić, editor of magazine ”Odjek”, USAID, ACIPS, Peace Building Network of BIH, Mak Dizdar Foundation, Regional Cooperation Council and Mozaik Foundation.
David Barth, head of USAID mission in BiH said that it is an honour to receive such prestigious award.
Bergmann, who initiated the project of charity 20 years ago in Austria, which collected 125 million EUR for BiH during the war, said that this award is an award for all Austrians and added that he hopes BiH will enter the EU as soon as possible.
Head of ACIPS Lejla Zaimović-Kurtović said that she’s glad that activities of ACIPS in their fight for human rights of BiH have been recognised.
