Slovenia banned Imports from illegal Israeli Settlements

Slovenia has banned the import of goods from illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories, the government decided on Wednesday, Prime Minister Robert Golob announced.

The government has ordered the economy and foreign affairs ministries to also examine the ban on the export of goods from Slovenia intended for these settlements.

At Golob’s initiative, the government also approved a decision on additional aid to the Palestinian civilian population in the form of food and blankets, the estimated value of which, including transport, is up to 879,490 euros.

The material aid will be provided from the material reserves of the Ministry of Defense and the army, and will include 1,000 blankets and up to 7,680 dry daily rations.

The import ban means continued pressure from Slovenia on Israel for its destruction of Gaza and the starvation of the population in the Palestinian enclave.

At the initiative of Prime Minister Golob, the Slovenian government also adopted a decision in late July prohibiting the export and transit of military equipment and weapons from or through the Republic of Slovenia to Israel, as well as imports from Israel to Slovenia.

This decision follows earlier announcements by Prime Minister Golob, who has repeatedly made it clear, most recently on the sidelines of the June European Council, that Slovenia would act independently if the European Union was unable to adopt concrete measures by mid-July.

In mid-July, Slovenia announced that it would formally declare two Israeli ministers persona non grata, citing their role in what it called the “unbearable situation” in Gaza.
