“Somalia is one of the most serious humanitarian Crises in the World” the UN says

Somalia remains one of the most serious humanitarian crises in the world where millions of people are exposed to unimaginable suffering, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced on the occasion of World Humanitarian Day.

According to the statement, the suffering in Somalia is caused by the effects of climate shocks, long-term conflicts, various diseases and economic problems.

“This year’s World Humanitarian Day theme, ‘Act for Humanity,’ calls on the world to do a better job of protecting civilians and humanitarians, especially in conflict zones,” said George Conway, UN Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator for Somalia.

An estimated four million people face food insecurity in Somalia, and 1.7 million children face acute malnutrition, including 430,000 likely to be severely malnourished as early as 2024.
