Soreca: Laws on Border Control and personal Data Protection are crucial for BiH’s European Path

Head of the European Union Delegation and EU Special Representative to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Luigi Soreca, welcomed the adoption of the Law on Border Control and Personal Data Protection in the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, stressing that these are key laws that bring BiH closer to the European Union and the official opening of accession negotiations.

Soreca stressed that improving border management is key to strengthening security, managing irregular migration flows and combating migrant smuggling and other cross-border crimes.

“The Law on State Border Surveillance will support a more comprehensive approach in line with EU standards,” he said.

He also added that the protection of personal data is key to protecting citizens’ rights.

“The Law on Personal Data Protection will also enable BiH to fully benefit from cooperation with EU agencies, such as EuroJust,” Soreca stressed.

He called on the delegates of the House of Peoples of the BiH PA to put the interests of BiH citizens above all other considerations and to finalize the adoption of these laws.

“These are laws that are in the interest of all citizens of BiH. The path to the EU remains the best guarantee of prosperity and stability. The path to the EU with all its advantages for BiH should not be held hostage, especially at a time when EU enlargement is the main political priority of the EU and its member states,” said Soreca.

He also called on the authorities to continue working on fulfilling the remaining conditions for progress on the European path.
