Staff of the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina leaves Tehran

Members and staff of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s embassy in Tehran left Iran and landed at the Sarajevo airport yesterday afternoon.

As Ambassador Nijaz Čardaklija confirmed, the BiH embassy in Tehran, like some others, with the involvement of local staff, is working with reduced capacity, but it is not locked. After the escalation of the war, the evacuation was postponed, but in the end the host’s recommendation was decisive.

“The embassy works on a technical level. So, we receive and respond to documents and letters. Diplomatic activities have died down anyway, there is no diplomatic corps in Tehran anymore. No one issues visas anymore. One of the basic functions of the receiving country is to ensure the physical integrity of embassy facilities and the lives of accredited diplomats. They were no longer able to provide it. As long as we were there, we were their burden and concern. Now at least they have one less worry,” said Čardaklija for “Avaz”.
