State Department: We support the OHR in using the Bonn Powers

The United States of America supports the Office of the High Representative in using Bonn powers to comply with the Dayton Peace Agreement and the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the State Department spokesman said.

“We will hold individuals involved in activities inconsistent with the Dayton Peace Agreement accountable for their actions,” State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said.

The US State Department announced a few days ago after the National Assembly of Republika Srpska adopted the Law on Non-Applicability of Decisions of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“This law violates the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina and contradicts the Dayton Peace Agreement. Defiance of the Constitutional Court threatens not only the rule of law, but also the stability, security and prosperity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Combined with the anti-Dayton rhetoric of some leaders of Republika Srpska, the law represents dangerous escalation of secessionist threats,” said the State Department.

They reiterated that the USA supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
