Statement by Ambassador Ferguson on the Stabilisation and Association Agreement with BiH

fergussonAfter the EU’s Foreign Affairs Council agreed on Monday to bring into force the Stabilisation and Association Agreement with Bosnia and Herzegovina, British Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Edward Ferguson, said:

“I’m delighted that the EU’s Foreign Affairs Council agreed on Monday to bring into force the Stabilisation and Association Agreement, seven years after it was originally signed. This is proof of our determination to help BiH to move forward towards its European future, and it shows that the EU will deliver on its commitments to BiH.

Now it is time for your political leaders to take responsibility and to deliver the reforms they have promised to stabilise the economy, create jobs, improve the efficiency of government, strengthen the rule of law and tackle corruption.  The process of government formation means we have lost time,  and we have already seen some unhelpful attempts to change the subject back to the political questions that have blocked any progress in recent years.  There should be no more excuses, and no more obstruction.  But if your leaders are successful in delivering these crucial reforms, and improving the lives of the citizens of this country, then we will continue to support further progress on the European path.”
