At least 20 people were killed and dozens more injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up at the Mar Elias Church in the Syrian capital Damascus, health officials and security sources said.
The Syrian Interior Ministry said the suicide bomber was a member of the so-called Islamic State group, who entered the church and opened fire, then detonated an explosives vest.
The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said two men were involved in the attack, including the one who blew himself up.
Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara, who led the offensive against ousted President Bashar al-Assad before taking power in January in a transitional administration, has repeatedly said he would protect minorities during his term.
