Swedish Embassy launches Project for Young first-time Voters

The Embassy of Sweden in Bosnia and Herzegovina is launching the “Electionville” project with the aim of improving democratic literacy and civic engagement of young people, and highlighting the importance of the participation of young people who are voting in elections for the first time.

On this occasion, high school students from Sarajevo and East Sarajevo will gather in Sarajevo today, who will be given the opportunity to take on the roles of councilors and jointly manage a simulated city council in the fictional city of “Electionville”.

“In this way, participants will gain a better understanding of the functioning of institutions, the decision-making process and how their personal participation in these processes affects governance,” the Embassy of Sweden in BiH announced.

As announced, the Swedish Ambassador to BiH, Helena Lagerlof, will also address the media.

During May, June and September, several events will be organized throughout BiH with the aim of strengthening critical thinking, dialogue and negotiation skills among young people.

The “Electionville” project is organized by the Embassy of Sweden in cooperation with the Institute for Youth Development “Kult”, with the support of the city governments of East Sarajevo and Sarajevo.
