Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Peter Szijjarto once again expressed open support for Milorad Dodik. At a joint press conference in Budapest, Szijjarto stated that “the last thing Europe needs is another crisis in the Western Balkans,” especially at a time when the continent is facing a serious security threat due to the war that has lasted for more than three and a half years.
“Hungary, as a neighboring country, has a vital interest in peace, stability, and security in the region. That is why we support European integration, economic development, and strengthening cooperation through educational programs and scholarships,” stated Szijjarto.
In his speech, the minister sharply criticized the approach of Western countries toward leaders in the region, accusing them of trying to undermine sovereign leaders through “lecturing, threats, and sanctions.”
“Foreign interference has always led to instability and dangerous situations in the Balkans. In contrast, Hungary respects the sovereignty and will of the citizens who elect their leaders, including Milorad Dodik,” emphasized Szijjarto.
He also warned about a broader European trend which, in his words, seeks to “eliminate patriotic leaders,” calling such processes deeply undemocratic and potentially dangerous for the future of Europe.
It should be recalled that the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) at the end of August made a decision to annul Milorad Dodik’s mandate.
