Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Peter Szijjarto stated that a new world order is taking shape today, a completely new global political reality and that this is good news for Hungary and Serbia.
“Good news, because this new global political reality is emerging due to the new United States (U.S.) president, Donald Trump, who is pursuing a patriotic policy and going against the previous ideology of the U.S. administration shamelessly interfering in the internal affairs of other countries,” said Szijjarto.
At a press conference in Belgrade on Thursday, after meeting with his Serbian counterpart Marko Djuric, he expressed satisfaction that “the governments of Serbia and Hungary equally attach strategic importance to the development of bilateral relations.” He assessed this as “very necessary.”
Szijjarto said that Trump “has opened a war, entered into conflict and struggle with the international liberal mainstream.”
“We still see that attacks against national patriotic governments are on the agenda, but they are now no longer directed from both Brussels and Washington, but only from Brussels,” said Szijjarto, adding that this “is not pleasant, but it is much easier to oppose them compared to the previous period.”
Saying that Hungary is monitoring events in Serbia and seeing the attempts at destabilization being carried out, he emphasized that “it is in the interest of Hungarians for Serbia to have stability and peace.”
Referring to the European Union (EU) integration of Western Balkan countries, Szijjarto said:
“Today, it is in the EU’s interest for the Western Balkan countries to join just as much as it is in the interest of the Western Balkan countries to become EU members.”
He called the actions of Brussels institutions and certain European countries that “are still blocking Serbia’s integration process” shameful.
Marko Djuric expressed satisfaction with what he described as very substantive discussions on improving Serbia-Hungary relations.
“We will work on the joint organization of an innovation forum between Serbia and Hungary because we want, as our economies modernize and take part in the development of new technologies, to be as closely connected as possible in this field.”
He emphasized that he had informed his Hungarian counterpart about the situation in Kosovo and added that “Serbia is committed to stability, peace, and good relations both within the country and in the region.”
He also briefed his Hungarian colleague on Serbia’s internal political dynamics.
“We in Serbia have both the endurance and the wisdom not to allow, through various scenarios – whether they resemble color revolutions or various other attempts at destabilization – for such scenarios to unfold in our country.”
Djuric added that yesterday, he heard from Szijjarto that Hungary will participate in the upcoming EXPO 2027 in Belgrade.
