German police detained a fifteen-year-old person in connection with a knife attack during a music festival in the city of Solingen in the west of Germany.
The police announced that the motive for the attack is still unclear, but that it cannot be ruled out as terrorism.
“Before the festival, there was no terrorist threat and there were no extensive security measures in place,” the police said.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that those responsible must be severely punished.
Three people were killed and eight were injured in a knife attack during a festival celebrating the city’s 650th anniversary.
Police confirmed that the attacker targeted the neck of his victims.
