The ban on the import of goods from Serbia to Kosovo has also led to the increase in prices of some products in the market, says Kresnik Bublaku, manager of a shopping center in Kosovo.
Representatives of business chambers in the country say that the government should abolish this measure because, as they say, it not only affects prices but also impacts potential investors.
Bublaku, who manages the “Jora Center” shopping center, says that this company, in addition to domestic products, now provides products directly from the countries of origin in the European Union (EU), which were previously supplied by Serbia or representations of foreign companies in Serbia.
As an example, Bublaku mentions the “Bravo” juices from the Austrian company “Rauch”.
“The juices produced by this company have increased in price by up to 20 percent because we are now sourcing them from Austria – the country of origin,” states Bublaku.
A 0.5-liter bottle of this juice cost 55 cents in September 2023 and is currently 79 cents.
In the last seven to eight months, some other products have higher prices, say citizens in Pristina.
In June of last year, according to data from the Kosovo Agency of Statistics, a kilogram of sugar was sold for 1.10 euros, and currently, it goes up to 1.40 euros. A liter of milk – depending on the manufacturer – used to cost up to 1.20 euros, but now it costs up to 1.35 euros, Slobodna Evropa reports.
