Although until now we could hear numerous statements related to espionage, an official of the Belarusian Ministry of Defense definitely went a step further and blamed the popular game Pokemon Go for espionage.
While guesting on a talk show in Belarus, the head of the department for ideological work of the ministry, Alexander Ivanov, said that Pokemon Go is an instrument of Western intelligence services. He substantiated this by stating that the game was used to gather information about Belarusian aviation near Minsk ten years ago.
“Where do you think there were the most Pokemon at that time? On the territory of the 50th Air Force Base, where there is a runway and where there is a lot of military aviation. There were the most Pokemon there. Isn’t this intelligence information?” he stated.
Ivanov mentioned Pokemon Go during a discussion about objects most likely to be targeted by spies.
The Pokemon Go game was created in 2016 and enabled millions of players to use their smartphones to store the so-called digital Pokemon.
New users are then informed how they can find Pokemon in every corner. In general, Pokemon is a Japanese media franchise that includes video games, playing cards, and a TV series that started back in 1996 and was extremely popular in the former Yugoslavia.
The appearance of the Pokemon Go game was previously commented on by Russia and they announced that the game could pose a security risk, and Russian propagandists claimed that Pokemon Go represents a conspiracy by the American intelligence agency CIA.
