The Chief of Staff of the Israeli army, Herzi Halevi, announced today that he will resign in March.

In a statement, he said that the army failed to defend Israel on October 7, 2023, during an attack by Hamas forces.

He added that he had informed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz that he would end his term on March 6.

He will resign ten months before the end of his usual three-year term.
