The Czech Railway Inspectorate reveals the Reason of Train Collision

The Czech Railway Inspectorate announced today that the head-on collision between a passenger and a freight train in Pardubice, in which four passengers were killed and 27 injured, was caused by the passenger train because it passed through the station at a red light.

“The preliminary investigation of the Railway Inspectorate established that the high-speed passenger train passed a traffic light that forbade it to pass. It is not possible to assert in advance whether it was a technical failure, human error or a combination of both factors, that is the subject of a thorough investigation,” the Czech Republic announced today Minister of Transport Martin Kupka.

Around 11 pm last night, a freight train with 21 wagons and a passenger train with 380 passengers collided head-on in Pardubice in the east of the Czech Republic. Part of it traveled to Slovakia, and part of the composition to the Ukrainian city of Chop.

Four people died in the collision, and 27 people, including children, were injured and transported to hospitals, but none of them are in danger.

Both train drivers survived the collision, and all four dead were passengers from the train to Slovakia.

It was only this morning that single-track traffic was restored on that important international corridor.

“The material damage is estimated at 4.5 million euros,” announced Minister Kupka, Beta writes.
