The Day of the Armed Forces of BiH marked in Vienna

The Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) in Vienna, the Permanent Mission of BiH to the OSCE, the United Nations (UN), and other international organizations in Vienna, and the Defense Ministry’s military attache organized a reception on Monday to mark the 19th anniversary of the formation of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina (AFBiH).

The attendees were addressed by the BiH Ambassador to the Republic of Austria, Sinisa Bencun, the Permanent Representative of BiH to the OSCE, UN, and other international organizations in Vienna, Ambassador Danka Savic, and the Military Attache, Herman Jerman.

In his speech, Ambassador Bencun praised the bilateral cooperation between BiH and Austria, specifically highlighting the programs and training that BiH cadets attend at the Theresian Military Academy in Austria.

He emphasized Austria’s support in other areas as well, including its partnership with BiH on the path to full European Union (EU)membership.

Reflecting on the journey over the past 19 years, the establishment, and development of the AFBiH, Ambassador Savic noted that the AFBiH have distinguished themselves through participation in international military exercises and peacekeeping missions, demonstrating professionalism and commitment to global security.

“Today, I also want to underscore the importance of our dedication to gender equality. The AFBiH have taken significant steps to ensure equal opportunities, representation, and participation for all. Promoting gender equality is not only a matter of human rights but also a key factor in strengthening the effectiveness, credibility, and operational capability of our military. In line with UN Security Council Resolution 1325, we have embraced the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda, and we are proud to be an active member of the WPS Chiefs of Defence Network,” emphasized Ambassador Savic, among other remarks.
