The Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina is clear: Bosnia and Herzegovina is a single and sovereign state that consists of two entities, the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska, as well as Brčko District.
The sovereignty, territorial integrity, constitutional order, including Constitutional Court decisions, and the international personality of Bosnia and Herzegovina need to be respected, it was stated in the press release of the EU Delegation in BiH.
Regional cooperation and good neighbourly relations are an essential part of progress on the path towards European integration. Actions and statements which negatively impact on good neighbourly relations and add to political divisions should be avoided. We expect all international partners to be equally committed to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s EU perspective as a single, united and sovereign country.
Following the decision of the European Council in March 2024 to open EU accession negotiations, we urge Bosnia and Herzegovina’s political actors to refrain from actions that deepen divisions and create tensions. Rather, we encourage them to fully focus their energy on delivering progress on the EU path, with all the benefits that would bring to citizens.
