“The Humanitarian Situation in Gaza is a moral Black Spot for all of us”

The Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) Antonio Guterres said that the humanitarian situation in Gaza is “a moral black spot for all of us”.

A session on the situation in Palestine was held in the UN Security Council under the chairmanship of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, where Deputy Secretary General of the UN and Chief of Staff Courtenay Rattray read the text of the speech on behalf of Guterres, who was not in New York.

“The humanitarian support system in Gaza is about to collapse,” Guterres warned, stressing that the risk of a regional spread of ever-increasing tension is increasing every day.

Guterres also reminded that Rafah in Gaza has been reduced to ruins and that no area in Gaza is safe.

“The humanitarian situation in Gaza is a moral black spot for all of us,” Guterres said, calling on the parties to come to an agreement.

Stating that there have been serious violations against prisoners in Israeli detention centers, Guterres said that all detainees should be treated humanely and those held without justification should be released.

“This terrible war must end now,” Guterres said.

In the last 24 hours, the Israeli army killed another 81 Palestinians in attacks in the Gaza Strip, increasing the total number of dead since October 7 to 38,794, the Ministry of Health in the enclave announced today.

In violation of a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire, Israel has faced international condemnation amid its continued offensive on Gaza since the October 7 attack by Hamas.

More than nine months after the start of the Israeli attacks, large parts of Gaza are in ruins.

Israel has been accused of genocide by the International Court of Justice, whose latest ruling ordered it to immediately halt its military operation in the southern city of Rafah, where more than a million Palestinians sought refuge from the war before it was attacked on May 6, AA writes.
