The Interreligious Council of BiH Requests an End to the Transfer of Assets of Churches and Religious Communities

The inter-religious council in Bosnia and Herzegovina has warned of increasingly frequent changes in the land registers, whereby the property of churches and religious communities is transferred to other beneficiaries.

The press release states that churches and religious communities are increasingly reporting that certain administrative bodies are implementing changes in the land registers, whereby their property is registered to so-called beneficiaries, i.e. legal and natural persons who were partial or full beneficiaries of the property in the previous system.

The Council warns that it is not a rare case that even places of worship are registered with a specific administrative body or other legal entity, with the explanation of so-called harmonization.
Because of this practice, it appealed to state and administrative authorities at all levels of government in BiH to stop it and definitely stop it.

As stated, the goal of the appeal is legal certainty before the law and the return of property to the real owners. At the same time, the inter-religious council called on the courts that are already handling the proceedings to speed up the resolution of disputed cases and to protect the real owners of illegally alienated property of churches and religious communities, as well as other natural and legal persons who are in a similar situation, with decisions and judgments based on law.
