Education, like all other spheres of life, has suffered enormous damage from the continuous attacks by the Israeli army on the Gaza Strip, which have lasted for more than a year, causing a real humanitarian disaster in the region.

In the Gaza Strip, where schools have had to close their doors to students and have become overnight shelters for displaced Palestinians, classes are being held in tents, but only limited services are being provided, thanks to the efforts of volunteers.

In the attacks by the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank, 12,061 Palestinian schoolchildren and students have been killed so far, and 19,467 have been injured.

A statement from the Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education states that the number of schoolchildren killed in Gaza, which has been under Israeli attacks since October 7, 2023, has reached 11,946, and the number of injured has reached 18,858.

In the West Bank, where the Israeli army intensified its attacks after October 7 last year, 115 Palestinian schoolchildren were killed, 609 were injured, and 466 were detained.

In the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, 564 teachers and other school staff were also killed and 3,729 were injured.

The number of teachers and staff detained by the Israeli army in the occupied West Bank is 153.

The Israeli army bombed 502 public schools, universities, and educational institutions in the Gaza Strip and 65 schools operated by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

Many schools and educational institutions in the Gaza Strip were completely destroyed in the Israeli army’s bombardment.

The Israeli army also destroyed 91 schools and seven universities in the occupied West Bank during raids and attacks.

The Israeli army has also bombed schools where displaced Palestinians have taken shelter.

According to UNRWA, 70 percent of UNRWA schools in the Gaza Strip have been targeted.

According to Palestinian sources, some 788,000 students have been unable to attend school due to Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip.

Pointing to the consequences of the Israeli attacks, it is said that most Palestinian students in Gaza have suffered psychological trauma.

Israel has continued its devastating offensive on the Gaza Strip since the Hamas attack last October despite a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire.

Since then, more than 43,600 people, mostly women and children, have been killed, and nearly 103,000 have been injured, according to local health authorities.

Israel has been accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice for its actions in the Gaza Strip.

Tensions are also rising across the occupied West Bank due to the Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip.

At least 780 Palestinians have been killed and nearly 6,300 wounded in Israeli military fire in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian Health Ministry said, AA writes.
