The Minister of Transport of Sarajevo Canton comments after the Tram Accident

The Minister of Transport of Sarajevo Canton, Adnan Šteta, spoke after the tram accident in which one person died and four were injured.

“Today, Sarajevo experienced one of those tragedies that stop us all and leave us speechless. I express my deepest condolences to the family of the young man who lost his life. My sincere condolences to the parents, family and everyone who is going through this unimaginable pain,” he said.

He stated that, since the moment of the accident, he has been in constant contact with the competent services, company management and health institutions.

“I was at the hospital, I talked to the doctors and the injured people, in order to personally support them and make sure that the system reacts at full capacity. I have been on the spot since the moment of the accident, until now when the tram was removed from the scene of the accident. This is not a time for speculation, nor for drawing conclusions before the competent authorities finish the investigation. The investigation into the causes of the accident is ongoing,” he explained.

Nevertheless, he says that he understands the indignation, fear and agitation of the citizens.

“I am a father myself, and I share the sense of heaviness that the entire city feels today. Today, the families deserve that we show them dignity and that we show respect for the injured young man and the injured persons. As the relevant minister, I can promise at this moment that all aspects of the functioning of public transport will be additionally and without exception reexamined. After the investigation is completed and after all the facts and all the omissions have been established, they will have a name and a surname. I will insist on full responsibility and sanctions. The safety of citizens, and especially children, must be and remains above all else. Today, Sarajevo is united in pain,” he concluded at the end of the post.

The investigation of this accident was carried out under the supervision of two prosecutors, with the presence of mechanical and traffic experts.

Necessary expert examinations will be conducted with the aim of determining all the circumstances and manner of occurrence of the accident, after which a decision will be made on further procedural actions.
