In an interview with Iranian state television, the new Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, Abbas Araghchi, spoke about Tehran’s relations with the United States (U.S.), stating that tensions must be managed.
Among other things, the head of Iranian diplomacy mentioned that Tehran fully supports the so-called axis of resistance, a network of military formations in the Middle East that oppose Israel.
“What we must do is manage the tensions and hostilities between Tehran and Washington,” he stated.
Although the U.S. and Iran have not maintained diplomatic relations for decades, the new minister emphasized that tensions must be reduced.
“In foreign policy, we are obliged to reduce the cost of this hostility as much as possible and alleviate its pressure on the nation. Iranian foreign policy will continue to prioritize Africa, neighboring countries, as well as Russia and China,” he stated.
In the interview, Araghchi also touched on the potential for a new Iranian attack on Israel and the attack that was carried out in April this year.
“We have full coordination between the military and diplomacy. The goals align. God willing, we will proceed in a way that fully ensures the national interests of the country, full security, and national dignity,” concluded the new Iranian Foreign Minister.
