The police arrested bus and car drivers from Bosnia and Herzegovina who took part in a traffic accident on the highway in Croatia this morning in which two people died and 31 were injured.
They were arrested on suspicion of causing a traffic accident and are currently in police custody in Kutina, Croatian media reported.
The head of the traffic police of the Sisak-Moslavina police department, Vjekoslav Štingl, said that during the investigation, no trace of game was found, as it was said earlier that the cause of the accident was a doe hit by a car.
Stingl said that the section where the accident happened is not particularly dangerous, but it is a highway where high speeds are reached and where the traffic is very dense.
The owner of the company “Halilović BUS” stated that his son, also a driver, was on the bus, and that immediately before the accident he switched with another conductor, which, he said, is a common practice on long routes.
The bus driver told RTL that he noticed a car parked in the lane at the last moment and tried to avoid it, but failed.
According to police information, the driver of the car initially claimed that he was avoiding a deer.
In this traffic accident, which occurred at around 3:00 this morning, two passengers from the bus died and 31 were injured, 29 of whom received medical care. Among the injured are minors. Most of the passengers are citizens of BiH.
Four fatal accidents occurred on the same section last year, in which six people died, and this is the first accident with fatalities this year.
